Infrastructure Engineering: What is it? Infrastructure engineers are responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of both public and private transportation systems. These are locations like highways, roads, bridges, and tunnels. Infrastructure engineers also work on projects like water supply systems, wastewater treatment systems, and others of a similar nature. The primary objectives of the engineering profession known as infrastructure engineering are the development, maintenance, and/or expansion of physical infrastructure.
