In a recent interview with the Financial Times, Aliko Dangote, the visionary chairman of Dangote Group, revealed exciting developments surrounding his $19 billion refinery, set to become Africa's largest and the world's biggest single-train facility.
Dangote enthusiastically shared that the refinery is poised to kick off production in December with an impressive daily output of 350,000 barrels. Anticipation is high as the first cargo of approximately six million barrels is expected to arrive next month, marking a significant milestone for the project.
Despite facing formidable challenges in the refinery's establishment, Dangote expressed gratitude for overcoming hurdles that would have proven insurmountable for many. He emphasized the resilience required to navigate such complexities, emphasizing, "It is either we sink, or we sail through. And we thank the Almighty that at least we have arrived at the destination."
Addressing concerns about crude oil supply, Dangote confidently stated that all challenges in this regard have been successfully resolved. He dismissed rumors of NNPC's reluctance, assuring that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company will fulfill its commitment to supply the required crude.
Looking ahead, Dangote revealed plans to eventually list the refinery as an independent entity on the Lagos Stock Exchange, signaling a significant move in the business landscape. Despite criticisms regarding his alleged political connections and preferential access to foreign exchange, Dangote defended his position, emphasizing the challenges faced by his company.
The refinery, boasting a massive 650,000 barrels per day capacity, is set to produce 27 million litres of diesel, 11 million litres of kerosene, and 9 million litres of jet fuel. Dangote emphasized the priority of supplying petrol to Nigeria before considering exports to the broader West African region.
As the billionaire entrepreneur confirmed the refinery's license to process over 300,000 barrels of Nigerian crude daily, he highlighted the commitment to utilizing domestic resources, firmly stating that the refinery will commence operations exclusively with Nigerian crude.
Dangote's refinery stands as a testament to innovation and perseverance, poised to reshape Nigeria's energy landscape and contribute significantly to the nation's economic growth.
